Walking and Bushwalking in Hobart
and North of Hobart
Introduction
The walks in this section of the website involve 2 walks in Hobart city, one in the historic town of Richmond, a tour of Pt Arthur and 5 walks in Freycinet National Park. All walks are accessible by public transport/coach. Some are better done with a private coach as more stops are able to be made along the way, but this is a choice which you can make. All walks are within 200 km north of Hobart. Of course if you are travelling by car, you have total freedom of where and when you stop.
You can get 4 seasons in a day in Tasmania, so you should always pack appropriate clothing. In summer, I would always recommend taking a jacket with you especially if you come from a warmer climate. Always walk in sturdy shoes/boots, use a backpack which leaves your hands free to help you balance and take enough food and water for the duration of your walk.
Pt Arthur has an entry fee and a walkers or car permit is required to be purchased if walking in Tasmanian National Parks. These permits are available from Tasmanian National Parks and Wildlife Service
